A special congratulations to Atlanta actress, and voice-over artist Portia Cue, who was chosen to be the “voice” for an Atlanta autistic teenager in a heartwarming new short documentary—”Makayla’s Voice: A Letter to the World”—which just made its debut at the Tribeca Festival 2024.
The film tells the story of Makayla Cain, a 14-year-old girl struggling with a rare form of autism called Phelan-McDermid Syndrome, which rendered her uncommunicative until a breakthrough came into her life via letter board therapy, a method that finally provided Makayla with the means to communicate for the first time. Her thoughts expressed in the film were written entirely by her and are read by Cue. The short film will be available on Netflix beginning December 11.
