The National Black Radio Hall of Fame, headquartered at Harris-Stowe State University in St. Louis, Missouri, is proud to announce the posthumous induction of Wanda Smith into the esteemed class of 2025.
David “Hurricane Dave” Smith, Chairperson for the nominations and induction process and Atlanta Chapter President of the National Black Radio Hall of Fame made the official announcement, expressing deep respect and admiration for the legendary radio personality. “I knew Wanda Smith from my years as RADIO-ONE’s Vice President of Programming and Operations. She was a fierce competitor, a true radio warrior, and pioneer,” Smith shared.
Wanda Smith’s career in radio and comedy spanned decades, captivating audiences with her authenticity, boundless humor, and unmatched wit. As a beloved morning show personality, she became a morning staple for countless listeners, bringing joy and laughter to every broadcast. Beyond her radio work, Wanda showcased her talent as a stand-up comedian, where she continued to uplift, connect, and inspire audiences with her fearless storytelling and vibrant presence.
“Today, we honor the late Wanda Smith, an extraordinary talent whose voice and laughter left an indelible mark on the world of radio,” Hurricane Dave stated. Wanda Smith’s induction into the National Black Radio Hall of Fame will be part of the official ceremonies in September 2025 in St. Louis, Missouri. During this special evening, her family will receive the official induction certificate and a resolution from the St. Louis Board of Aldermen congratulating her on this well-deserved honor.
Her name and image will be enshrined alongside legendary figures in the world of Black radio, including Tom Joyner, Bernie Hayes, Roland Martin, Donnie McClurkin, Frank Ski, Big Tigger, and other trailblazers who have made significant contributions to the industry’s culture and spirit.
“Today, we celebrate her timeless contribution to the culture and spirit of Black Radio,” Hurricane Dave concluded.
