Audacy’s WFAN (101.9 FM & 660 AM) names broadcaster Dave Sims as the new lead play-by-play announcer for its New York Yankees broadcasts. Sims will fill the position held by John Sterling, who recently retired after a 35-year career with the Yankees. Joining Suzyn Waldman, Sims will bring decades of experience to the Yankees’ radio booth.
Sims expressed excitement for his new role, stating, “What an honor to be part of the iconic Yankees franchise. New York is where it all started for me, and I can’t wait for Opening Day and to work with my good friend Suzyn!”
Sims’ career includes 18 seasons as the lead TV play-by-play announcer for the Seattle Mariners, a Ford Frick Award nomination, and previous work with New York outlets like WNBC-AM, WFAN-AM and the Madison Square Garden Network. Additionally, he launched the “Hey Now! Podcast” with his two sons earlier this year.
WFAN has broadcast Yankees games since 2014, following a 12-year run on WCBS 880. Fans can continue to listen to Yankees broadcasts on WFAN and via the Audacy app and website within the team’s geographic area.
