Know to many, Doug Abernethy has announced his departure from Audacy, where he has served as Regional President. His final day with the company will be May 9, marking the end of an over ten-year tenure with the company and a distinguished 36-year career in the field.
In an email, Abernethy expressed gratitude for the collaborations and relationships he has fostered throughout his time at Audacy. “It has been a privilege to work alongside you during the past ten plus years with the company, and for some, my thirty-six years in the industry,” he wrote. Abernethy praised the teams and individuals he has worked with, stating, “Each market, team, and person I have had the pleasure to work with has made a lasting impression on me.”
Before his role as Regional President, Abernethy was the Vice President and General Manager for Entercom, now Audacy, in Miami and South Florida. His career in radio broadcasting began long before his tenure with Audacy, having previously spent ten years as a Regional Vice President at Radio One.
Abernethy’s contributions to the industry have not gone unnoticed. A recipient of multiple accolades, he was honored with the Radio’s Best Managers award three years consecutively from 2006 to 2008. In 2009, he was named Radio Wayne’s Best Market Manager, and in 2010, he received the Urban Knight award, which recognized his efforts in promoting and marketing to African-American consumers.
